Tomyhoi Lake is a gorgeous out-and-back trail located in the robust Mt. Baker Wilderness, Washington State, USA. The 6.8 mile hike is rated a moderate to difficult level, perfect for experienced hikers seeking a workout. Before the ascent up through beautiful coniferous woods, the hike begins with switchbacks through lush wildflowers. You can treat yourself to panoramic views of the North Cascades during the significant, but rewarding, 3333 foot elevation gain. Most would agree that the highlight of the hike is Tomyhoi Lake, a serene alpine lake with clear waters. Camping is available near the lake, if you wish to make it a multi-day adventure. If you have a Washington State fishing license, you can sustainably catch a variety of trout.

As you traverse through the trail, you’ll be enveloped in a variety of stunning flora and fauna. You can anticipate encountering adorable pika, marmots, and even mountain goats. From April to November the trail is practically a paradise for bird enthusiasts. Birders can potentially capture images of Golden-crowned Kinglets, Western Flycatchers, Canada Jays, Steller Jays, Black-capped Chickadees, and Brown Creepers among many species. 

Due to the avalanche paths on the trail, it is best to visit the trail during the summer or early fall. Dogs are able to come along as they are leashed. It is advisable to check the trail conditions online before venturing out, and to come prepared for weather changes. 

Starting from Glacier, Washington, head eastward on Mount Baker Highway for approximately 12 miles. Then, make a left turn onto Twin Lakes Road. Continue on Forest Service Road 3065 for 4.5 miles until you reach the Tomyhoi Lake and Yellow Aster Butte Trailhead, where parking is available.
