About Accessible Travel
Did you know that an estimated 15% of the world’s population lives with some form of disability? This translates to over 1 billion people worldwide! In the U.S. alone, 28% of adults live with a disability that’s almost 78 million people!
The numbers don’t lie: accessible travel is not just a niche segment of the tourism industry. It’s a vital part of the global travel market.
A recent survey found that 72% of adults living with a disability emphasize the importance of finding accommodations that are accessible. 41% say that their identity influences their choice of accommodation.
The demand for accessible accommodations is clear however, truly accessible properties are still few and far between. Particularly those that provide seamless access to nature and outdoor activities.
That’s where we come in.
Luxury Getaways is proud to offer guests access to the stunning Waterfront Chalet in the Mt. Baker area. This thoughtfully designed, mobility-certified vacation home offers an inclusive experience, combining comfort, accessibility, and a deep connection to nature.
A Home Designed for Accessibility
Waterfront Chalet isn’t your average mountain retreat.
The owners carefully built and designed this home after facing daunting life and travel challenges because of their child’s severe food allergies. Food allergies are a recognized disability under the Americans With Disabilities Act. This experience reshaped how they approached life and travel and inspired them to build a home that caters to those with accessibility needs.
“It completely reshaped the way we travel. We could no longer stay in hotels, didn’t feel safe flying for over a decade due to relaxed peanut guidelines on airlines, and we still can’t eat out at restaurants (even in 2024!) We had to stay in vacation homes if we wanted to travel with our children so we could buy and make our own food. When we built the Waterfront Chalet, we wanted it to be inclusive to everyone, regardless of their abilities.”
This stunning two-story chalet offers a fully accessible main-floor with a large gourmet kitchen, dining area, two accessible king bedrooms, a thoughtfully designed, accessible bathroom and a living room with movable, modular furniture that offers spectacular views of the lake. On the second floor guests can find gorgeous natural wood-clad vaulted ceilings, a king bedroom, an additional lounge and two comfortable twin beds. These abundant, thoughtfully designed spaces make Waterfront Chalet the perfect inclusive getaway home for families and friends to enjoy the beauty of the Mt. Baker area.
